ML2 E-Newsletter

The newsletter began in March 1996 as my communication with service-minded MBAs who were filling out a survey on values in business, the results of which I would deliver in an official address to the United Nations in June 1996. That summer, I began to write real life stories about altruism in business, and the newsletter quickly grew to reach readers in 87 countries, with a company, You & CompanyŽ, founded to help people find meaningful careers.

Each month I try to engage, inspire and challenge you to find your way to make a living by what you get and make a life by what you give. In each newsletter I ask you to reflect on one central life question-such as "Are you a consumer or a citizen?" or "Why Do You Work So Hard?"-questions that encourage you to bring humanistic values and civic responsibility into your life's work.

My global mission is a world of peace where business is used to uplift the human spirit and alleviate poverty and suffering on our planet.

My personal mission is for each of you to work in the business world at your potential with both heart and mind, and for every business to appreciate that one's spirit is as important as one's intellect, and that purposeful work leads to profitable work.

We all dream of noble purposes, of making a significant impact in the limited time we have. I hope to help give you the courage to reach for your dreams, bring your souls to work, and make a difference. My mission will be achieved when no one has to say they compromised making a life for making a living.
